Especially after the teaser trailer that it released yesterday?

Even if the trailer was god tier, I will still probably opt out because goddamn I'm sick of remakes, sequels, prequels, and whatever else to existing franchises. I'm sticking to my principles with this one.

You have a greater chance in life of experiencing the lazarus phenomenon (Being declared dead and then living again a short brief period later) than making some earth shattering masterpiece of a work.

Art stuff or something like that.

I've only seen the first 2 movies and lost interest in this franchise after that. So thats a no from me :/

agreed! Not going to watch this!

Probably will. It doesn't look too promising and the 4th movie was a good conclusion but I'm just too damn curious lol

Yeah, I am not going to watch this movie, especially when there are better stuff out there. Heck I thought this was a meme when I saw the Shrek dancing and not the official thing. Guess they are trying to capitalize on the meme aspect.

Honestly, I’m giving this a chance. I have a feeling it’ll be a mixed bag, but I’m curious what this has in store.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a frog!

Shrek is one of those franchises that felt artificially prolonged by internet culture as an ironic joke, until it became unironic. Shrek was a parody of so many fairy tales with a mix of gross out humor which was a novel at the time... until it became a parody of itself in more ways than one.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I know the change in art style is already proving to be controversial, but I have nothing but praise for it so far. I loved Shrek 1 and 2 growing up (Shrek 3 was obviously the first time I've been truly disappointed from a highly-anticipated sequel, and I never bothered with Shrek Forever After as a result...), but their realistic lighting and stiff animation has not aged well at all, in my opinion. My eyes are just super happy looking at the video thumbnail alone, it's as simple as that.

...As for whether I'd be interested in actually paying money for a continuation of the Millennial icon--I need more information, first. On one hand, it could be like when Puss in Boots: The Last Wish came out, something I initially slept on because the first Puss in Boots was "meh" at best, and the early trailers did a little TOO GOOD of a job hiding that movie's best qualities (the usual Hollywood trailer standard of over-focusing on okay jokes that only exist to lighten the mood of darker scenes, not trusting mainstream audiences to be interested in a movie for its more-thought-provoking storytelling moments). Once I saw all the memes and fan art gushing about the movie, though, I had to at least give it a shot when it came to streaming, and it certainly showed there is still unique stories to be told within the Shrek universe!

I am tempering my expectations for now, expecting a sort of obnoxious "self-aware" comedy relying too much on all the dumb, dated Shrek memes of the early 2010s (e.g. Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life) for the sake of "member-berries." If it actually has a well-thought-out story to be told with a genuine moral that is also a sly dig at Disney Princess movies promoting a somewhat-entitled, overly-optimistic worldview in little girls, like the first two Shreks and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, then I will be more than happy to be wrong. Seriously, The Last Wish's moral of radical acceptance of the way the world works is even more interesting when you compare it to the "moral" of the movie Disney made after it, Wish.

However, if they think the vast majority of Millennial Shrek fans grew up well-adjusted enough to have a family and children of their own, they may be sadly mistaken. I certainly don't have children of my own to force me to watch this movie regardless whether I want to or not...

probably not. its probably gonna be another cash grab anyway. I'll be 16 when this movie comes out btw

not a Shrek fan

idk honestly, i honestly hope that teaser is just a teaser.

ik Shrek is always been a fantasy medival setting with nods/jokes to the current times, but that TikTok (FUCCCK GROSS) feel too forced and outdated memes and ugli unfunni ass Gmod animation aren't fun.

Design wise, is actually neat :)

Cool, sweet and catchy!

Yes! I loved 1,2 and 4 and the updated art looks fantastic

Not planning on it buy I'm sure I'll see it at some point. If the last wish can throw me off guard then I can give it a try at least

Any movie I see I have to watch it, even if I think it’s crap

As unlikely as it sounds, there is evidence to suggest that the daughter is transgender.

Obviously, eye color isn't 100% proof (it's more like 10%), but if Dreamworks has the guts to put a trans character in their big blockbuster film (even sub-textually if there's solid enough subtext), then I will be seeing this on day fricking one.

The more likely scenario is that they simply changed her eye color, in which case... I don't know? If people say it's good, I'll see it, but otherwise there's not a whole lot of motivation for me.

I didn't know there was a 3rd or 4th movie!

I'm only going to see it if the daughter is gonna use xe/xer pronouns. Otherwise the movie is gonna be shit.

Nah, I'm gonna rewatch Shrek 1 for the 132th time.

Maybe I'll see it with my siblings and nephews, since watching the original Shrek movies was treated like a goddamn family event.

There's three things I hope for the movie; I hope they don't overdo it with the "woah smartphones! Tiktok? Totally not thinly veiled commentary on current year American media and politics" -ass culture shock joke, and they don't overdo the "Shrek is drek" metahumor either. I also hope sneak in a deepcut reference to some of the scrapped Shrek 1 content that's been unearthed.

Fuck you give me money!

(thanks for the years of Lulu/Payne r34 my loyal dealers)

I'm not so sure about having the movie come out near Christmas, but I might see it with my family. I'm also praying that this whole social media bit is only in this teaser.

Probably.. I actually don’t think it looks too bad, I feel like people are just overreacting.

Probably because of either nostalgia or seeing The Last Wish artstyle

Im not sure. To be honest, I dont find it's style to be particularly bad. Actually, I like that it resembles the original book's style more, and it's natural that the technology and style is bound to be better now than it was back then.

I feel like the issue people have with the style of THIS film is that it resembles the wacky fluidity of animated films nowadays, the kind of mario movie/illumination movie sort of bounciness to it that usually gets associated with wacky hijinks and the like. Because of that association, it feels weird to some I bet, to see it with Shrek. From the get-go, especially in 1 and 2, it's basically one big silly parody of typical disney-fairy tale shtick and its why the movies are so memorable, because they're riffing on what disney's done so much while also genuinely conveying a fun or meaningful story. Even in shrek 4/forever after, there's a genuinely nice meaning to valuing what you have and not taking it for granted in spite of the issues that exist in one's life, alongside accepting that the past is the past and doesnt need to be relieved. Cant say much about shrek 3, though I remember heavily disliking it.

I dont care about the design change so long as there's a genuinely meaningful story to be told, and that it isnt just gonna be silly-wacky hijinks - shrek is about parodying disney shit, and also conveying something with well intent. I HOPE that this movie keeps that up.

Vibin~! ^w^

It's a maybe at best but it's not going to be a day 1 watch for me.

Not unless the reviews are good
